Consecutive tournament wins

Federer is currently in second place overall, with 7 tournament wins, Borg and Lendl lead the list, both having had 8 consecutive torunament wins in the open era.

Percentage of tournaments won

In the 3 year period from 2004 to 2006, Federer won 69,4% of the tournaments he entered (34 wins from 49 tournaments entered), an all time record.

Consecutive wins at one tournament

Federer has won the tournaments at Wimbledon 5 times and at the US Open 5 times in a row.

He also won Halle 5 times in a row from 2003 to 2006 and 2008 (he didn't play in 2007); he also has won the Dubai Open 4 times in 5 years (2003 to 2007) and the Hamburg Masters 4 times in 6 years (2002 to 2007).

Consecutive tournaments won on diferent surfaces

In 2004, Federer became the first player since Borg in 1979 to win consecutive tournaments on three different surfaces, having captured titles at Wimbledon (grass),Gstaad (clay), and Toronto (hard). In the interest of accuracy, it should be noted that Borg won his 3 titles on 3 consecutive weeks.

Federer holds this record with a huge advantage over Borg and McEnroe, who share second place winning 12 finals in a row; starting in Vienna in October 2003 untill the tournament in Bangkok in September 2005, Federer played and won 24 finals in a row, before being beaten by Nalbandian on a fifth set tie-brake at the final of the 2005 Masters Cup.

Consecutive tournaments in which he reached the final

Federer stands at second place with 17 finals reached in 17 consecutively entered tournaments, before Murray defeated him in the second round of the Cincinnati Open in August 2006 (this was his last loss until Guilhermo Canas beat him in Febuary 2007 at Indian Wells). Ivan Lendl holds the overall record, with 18 finals.

In 2007, starting in Hamburg, he also reached the final of the 8 consecutive tournaments he played, until his loss in Paris in October 2007.

Highest percentage of finals reached

In 2006, Federer became the player with the highest percentage of finals reached in a year, 94.1% (16 finals out of 17 tournaments played). The only tournament where he didn´t reach the final was in Cincinati, where he lost to Andy Murray.

Also, since losing to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the French in 2005, Federer reached the final in 22 of the 23 tournaments he has played since. This record came to halt in March 2007 at Indian Wells, when in lost in his first match to Canas.

As of June, 9th, 2009, Federer has won 59 of 81 finals during his career, for a winning percentage of 72.84 percent. This compares to 72.7 percent by Sampras, 71.3 percent by McEnroe, and 70.5 percent by Borg.

In acomplishing his longest winning streak, Federer won the following tournaments: U.S. Open (7 matches), Davis Cup (2 matches), Tokyo (5 matches), Madrid (5 matches), Basel (5 matches), Shanghai (5 matches), Australian Open (7 matches) and Dubai (5 matches).

In 2007, having won Cincinnati and the US Open, Federer had another match winning streak of 18 matches, which ended with his loss to Nalbandian in the Madrid final..

In 2006, Federer won at least 80 matches for a second straight year, the first player to do so sinceIvan Lendl went 106-26 in 1980, 96-14 in 1981, and 106-9 in 1982. Federer has won at least seventy matches in four consecutive years (2003: 78-17; 2004: 74-6; 2005: 81-4; 2006: 92-5).

At this moment, Federer is the outright leader in consecutive grass court match wins, with 65 in a row, having won Halle 5 times in a row (25 matches) and Wimbledon 5 times in a row and a sixth final (40 matches - a bye), from 2003 to 2008.

He lies currently second behind Borg in consecutive Wimbledon matches won, with 40, unril his loss to Nadal in 2008; Borg had 41 wins from 1976 to the final in 1981, when he lost to McEnroe.

Federer currently holds the record for the two longest hard court winning streaks, with 56, (from 2005 until the Dubai final of 2006), and 36 (from US Open 2006 until Dubai 2007). He also has another hard court winning streak of 27 matches:

Match winning streaks - US Open

Federer's 34-match win streak at the US Open is the Open Era record, (Lendl, who won the title from 1985 to 1987 but lost in the 1988 semifinals, had 27 consecutive wins). By reaching the final in 2007, Federer passed John McEnroe's mark of 25 straight wins, and by winning again in 2008 he passed Lendl.

Match winning streaks - Top Ten ranked oponents

Federer won a record 26 consecutive matches against top ten ranked opponents. The streak lasted from October 2003 to January 2005, when he lost to Marat Safin in the semifinal of the Australian Open.

Match winning streaks - North America and American oponents

Federer holds the record for most consecutive singles wins in North America, winning 55 straight matches before losing to Andy Murray in August 2006.

Unitl his loss to Mardy Fish, in March 2008, Federer had won 41 consecutive match over American players. Before that, his last loss to an American was against Roddick in a semifinal of the 2003 Canadian Masters, before he was number 1 in the world.

Set winning streaks

Federer won 31 consecutive sets beginning with his Tennis Masters Cup round robin match against Roddick onNovembre 14, 2006, and ending with his first round match against Kristian Pless at Dubai on Febuary 26, 2007.

Set winning streaks at Grand Slams

Federer won his 11th consecutive Grand Slam singles match in straight sets (7 in Australia, 4 in France) when he defeated Youzhny in the fourth round of the 2007 French Open. This tied McEnroe's open era record for the most consecutive straight set victories in Grand Slam singles tournaments.

Federer won his 36th consecutive Grand Slam singles set (2 in the U.S., 21 in Australia, 13 in France) when he won the first set in the quarterfinals against Robredo at the 2007 French Open. This broke McEnroe's open era record for the most consecutive sets won in Grand Slam singles tournaments, which stood at 35 consecutive set wins.
